Summer is officially here. And if there's one thing we know we can do for sure this summer, it's read!
A summer reading program can be a great resource for keeping school age kids on track during the summer. Or, for little ones, it can instill the love of reading from a young age. Here are our favorite free summer reading programs in our area....
Long Beach Public Library
Long Beach is moving forward with a virtual version of the Summer Reading Program. This year, the theme is: Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover!
All ages can participate in this summer reading program, which runs from June 13th - July 25th. Register online here
Barnes and Noble Summer Reading
For students in grades 1-6, read any 8 books this summer, record it on your reading journal, and then come into the store between July 1st and August 31st to claim your free book. Find the reading journal and the list of books to choose from here.
Scholastic Read-a-Palooza
For kids of all ages. Track your books online to earn rewards. Find more information by clicking here.
Camp PBS Kids
Find a summer reading tracker, along with other activities and resources. Find more information here.
Book Adventure
Go on a book adventure, play games, and take quizzes to earn points toward prizes. Join the challenge here.
Pizza Hut’s Book It Summer Reading Program
Find suggested reading books, and easy activities to go along with the suggested books. Students will earn points toward a free personal pizza, along with other prizes. The Book It site is currently under maintenance, we will update once it is live.
Other Local Libraries Offering Reading Programs:
You may choose to participate in more than one summer reading program, and many other local library branches offer their own version of the Summer Reading Challenge. Read books and earn prizes.
